Background of the Study: The implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) has become a critical part of modern healthcare delivery systems globally. EHRs provide a centralized platform for storing and managing patient data, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of healthcare services. In Nigeria, the integration of EHRs into hospitals, including Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Katsina State, aims to improve patient care, streamline medical workflows, and reduce the incidence of medical errors (Olawale et al., 2024). However, despite the increasing adoption of EHR systems in Nigerian hospitals, challenges such as limited staff training, infrastructure, and technology adoption persist, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
Nurses, as integral members of the healthcare team, are key users of EHRs in patient care settings. Their role in recording, updating, and accessing patient information can significantly influence the effectiveness of these systems. However, the level of knowledge and the extent to which nurses are equipped to use EHRs effectively in hospitals like FMC Katsina remains underexplored. This study seeks to evaluate the knowledge, practices, and challenges nurses face in using EHRs at FMC Katsina, focusing on how these factors affect patient care delivery.
Statement of the Problem: While EHR systems have the potential to improve healthcare delivery, there are concerns about nurses' preparedness and competence in using them effectively. In FMC Katsina, inadequate training, lack of user-friendly systems, and resistance to change may hinder nurses' ability to fully utilize EHRs, which in turn may affect the quality of patient care. This study aims to assess the knowledge and practice of nurses regarding EHRs and identify barriers to their effective use in this healthcare setting.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on nurses working at FMC Katsina who use EHR systems in their daily practice. Limitations include the possibility of biased responses due to self-reporting and the potential lack of access to certain EHR functionalities during the study period.
